My Background

A Finance professional having occupied high level management positions in various industries but after having spent almost 30 years in the corporate world, I felt that there was something missing in my life, but it was not clear to me what it was.

This is not to say that I haven’t enjoyed my career.

I’m in fact incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to train to become a qualified accountant and an accomplished professional.

My qualification has indeed provided me with wonderful opportunities and a successful career which I am proud of and the skills that I have acquired will always serve me in any future undertakings.

However, I came to a point where I was starting to feel unfulfilled in my professional life.

I wasn’t motivated to continue evolving in an ongoing stressful and at times filthy corporate environment which was seriously starting to affect my well-being and family life.

I believe all of us deserve to be happy in our life and be a master of our own destiny.

Having almost reached my 50s, I was determined to look for new avenues in order to pursue the 2nd part of my life while enjoying more flexibility and freedom.

So, I started doing some research on the internet for new ideas while keeping abreast of what was happening in the world.

The internet is such a powerful tool and source of information and although it may at times be quite overwhelming, it does provide such an array of opportunities in today’s world.

Reinventing Ourselves - an Absolute Necessity

I must say that the outburst of the Covid-19 virus in 2020 and its consequences acted as a big catalyst for me.

This pandemic completely shacked the world and created such a havoc overturning our habits and ways of doing things within a relatively short period of time.

First, it made me realise how vulnerable our existence and the world were!

That it was important to return to basics!

That it was essential to have a more grateful attitude and not take things for granted.

To appreciate the simple things in life, like being able to breathe fresh air in the open given that face mask was becoming part of our life!

The importance of taking care of oneself and of our loved ones, spending more quality time with the family, something which I managed to do while working from home during the pandemic.

I also realised how things can suddenly change in this world without any warning sign.

How our traditional way of doing things and the whole economic system can be compromised at a relatively quick pace and that it was crucial to keep an open mind and adapt to the new normal to ensure a sustainable future.

This simply called upon every one of us to re-invent ourselves and not to continue with the status-quo.

This unprecedented event was definitely an eye opener!

But most importantly, what I learnt was the absolute necessity to continue investing in ourselves, expanding our knowledge by learning new skills while being receptive and open minded to opportunities that will come across our path during these tough and challenging times.

This prompted me to find a renewed and meaningful purpose to my life.

Finding An Alternative

While I was on the internet, I stumbled by chance upon a short video of a guy in the same age group as me shooting a YouTube video of himself.

He was a former corporate executive in the UK previously working in a multinational corporation as Sales Director for their operations in Europe.

He was talking about the challenges and pain he had faced in his professional life, why he decided to make a complete shift in his career and how he managed to successfully launch his online business.

He went on to explain that he is now part of a global community of digital entrepreneurs who have been extremely supportive in providing him with the necessary training, support and guidance in building an online business from scratch even though he did not have any technical skills and knowledge.

The message that went through to me was whether I had a Plan B given the chaotic situation the world was currently going through and that it would make sense to consider alternative options to generate income streams online.

He was only asking for an email address on which he would share the free workshop videos that helped him successfully start his digital journey, which I did.

Trusting One's Inner Feeling

For whatever reason, upon receiving the email, I did not bother to proceed further probably thinking that it was too good to be true and so I continued with my routine life.

Subconsciously though, his message was stuck in my mind and after a couple of months, I felt that it would not cost me anything to find out more about this online digital business model and so I decided to go back in much detail through the contents of the email that were sent to me.

Being someone pragmatic by nature probably due to my professional background, I then went through the workshops series and watched several interviews of people coming from all walks of life and of diverse background from all around the world who have managed to transform their lives and become successful digital entrepreneurs.

The Breakthrough

As I was moving forward in my understanding of this digital lifestyle business model and its processes, this whole idea totally resonated with me, and it was 'The Breakthrough' that I had been looking for!

It has been a real game changer since I joined that amazing community of digital entrepreneurs.

I was thrilled with the step-by-step education, training and processes that was provided on how to build an online business from scratch that can revolve around one's passion and interests.

Being close to my 50s and not tech savvy at all, I initially thought that it was a crazy path for me to embark myself on a completely new avenue and learning new skills at my age.

Fast forward to today, I am so grateful that I took the courage to overcome my limiting beliefs and went beyond my comfort zone.

I feel absolutely blessed to have had the valuable support of the community for guidance through all the various stages I have been through especially when things were getting tough during the learning process.

I never imagined in my life that I would have been able to build a website on my own and overcome the various technical issues that I have encountered.

Yep, I managed to do it and thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I was in fact quite impressed and proud of what I have been able to achieve taking into consideration my finance background ;-))

If a 50-year-old guy like me with no technical skills and knowledge in technology has managed to do it, then I believe it can be achieved by anyone having the willpower and motivation to go for it!

Where Do I Stand Now?

Well, I am still early into this digital journey, but I am looking forward to the endless possibilities that this laptop lifestyle is offering.

What we basically need to start is a laptop and an internet connection!

It makes such a huge difference knowing that you are surrounded with like-minded people sharing innovative ideas and helping each other to move forward.

I am so grateful to have come across this community of digital entrepreneurs and especially that guy who introduced me to this laptop digital lifestyle.

He has provided me with valuable guidance and support, and I can now count him as one of my esteemed mentors.

We now have regular online working session meetings where best practices and ideas as to how to leverage our businesses for sustainable growth are shared.

A regret which I may have is to come across this avenue only now as I could have started much earlier but somehow better late than never.

On the other hand, I believe everything happens for a purpose and maybe it was meant for me to engage myself into this exciting adventure only at this stage of my career.

When I look at all the challenges that the world is currently facing and the growing trend towards digitalization and online commerce, I believe that I have taken the right step as this is where the future lies.

The Future is Digital

Retail e-commerce sales worldwide increased by approximately 28% to reach a figure of over US$ 4 trillion in 2020 despite the surge of the Covid-19 pandemic and it is expected that revenues will grow further in 2021 to get close to the US$ 5 trillion mark.

Given the direction the world is heading to, with artificial intelligence and automation rapidly changing the nature and roles of almost every job at a glance, it is crucial to keep pace with this spurring revolution.

Continue investing in ourselves and learning how to strive in this digital economy which is taking over from the traditional one, is a must today.
